Verbalize what you will about its bold
music video, but Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” is one of the best musical
compositions of 2013, a monster pop ballad for the ages (and no doubt many
karaoke nights to come). It’s no wonder, then, that acts from across all genres
have covered it. Afore time we optically discerned HAIM Apply some generally
guitar to the smash hit, then there was Angel Haze’s gorgeous, tearjerker
rendition. During a recent stop at BBC Radio’s Live Lounge, London Grammar
pulled out their own take on the chart-topper.
True to their sound, CoSigned UK trio
take the track to a more tenebrous place, wrapping it in the haunting,
all-consuming glow that dominated their excellent debut album, If You Wait. At
times, frontwoman Hannah Reid gives Cyrus a clear run for her mazuma, her
operatic vocals a striking cumulation of conviction, poise, and utter
devastation. Listen and Download it below.
